"When women scream you wonder what’s wrong with them. When men yell you get afraid about what they’re going to do."

— A girl in my creative writing class said this in response to a story we read about witnessing intimate partner violence and it really fucked with my head because I’ve never, ever, ever, thought of it that way.  (via padarnaalat)

Walmart needs to raise all of its products prices by 1% to put all its employees on a wage that Roosevelt considered living. And the consumers would be paying that 1% not Walmart… like 1% is nothing.

"Liberation Wrapper" from Japanese burger joint, Freshness Burger designed to, as the name implies, “liberate” women from the constraints of eating large burgers in public. In Japan, it’s considered rude and extremely unattractive to eat with your mouth wide open—especially if one is female; Freshness Burger figured this was the reason women weren’t ordering their burgers so they got to thinking and whipped out this oddly creative solution to their sales problem.
Admittedly, I initially wrote this off as comically weird until I realized that while I don’t shy away from large burgers, I still tend to cover my mouth when I eat—or even laugh—in public so I can see how this could catch on really, really fast. It’s simple, genius and will probably become the norm in all Western-styled fast food joints in Japan.

This is the only way I eat though.. mouth wide open HAHAHAHA I’ll be considred super rude/unattractive in Japan OHWELL

The smart way to keep people passive and obedient is to strictly limit the spectrum of acceptable opinion, but allow a very lively debate within that spectrum — even encourage the more critical and dissident views. That gives people a sense that there’s free thinking going on, while all the time the presuppositions of the system are being reinforced by the limits put on the range of debate.
